Pit bulls are in a category of their own when it comes to dog toys. Strong jaws, high drive, and a tendency to treat destruction as a game means most subscription boxes are a bad fit.
We tested the major boxes with a 65lb American pit bull terrier. Here's what held up and what didn't.
The Test
Four weeks. One dog. Six subscription boxes. We rated each box on toy durability (how long before destruction), treat quality, and value.
Our test dog: a 65lb male American pit bull terrier, 4 years old, power chewer. He destroyed a KONG Classic in 40 minutes and has gone through three "indestructible" beds.
Results
Bullymake — Winner
Toy durability: 4+ weeks. None of the nylon or rubber toys were destroyed during the test period. One showed significant wear by week 3; Bullymake replaced it under their guarantee.
Treats: USA-made, allergy-friendly. Our dog has a chicken sensitivity — no reaction.
Value: First box $19, then $39/mo. At that durability level, it's the best value for power chewers.
BarkBox Super Chewer — Runner-up
Toy durability: 1–2 weeks for most toys. The rubber toys held up better than the fabric ones. Not designed for extreme chewers, but better than standard BarkBox.
Treats: Good quality, themed to the monthly box.
Value: $46/mo monthly. Higher price, lower durability for extreme chewers.
BarkBox Standard — Not recommended for pit bulls
Toy durability: Under 48 hours for most toys. The plush toys lasted under an hour. Not suitable for power chewers.
PupBox — Not applicable
Designed for puppies. Not tested with our adult dog.
The Recommendation
For pit bulls and other power chewers: Bullymake. It's the only box we tested that was actually designed for dogs like ours, and the durability difference is not subtle. First box is $19.
If Bullymake is out of stock or you want variety alongside durability, BarkBox Super Chewer is the best alternative. Standard BarkBox is not suitable.
Ruger's pick: Bullymake
The only subscription box built for dogs that destroy everything.
