Ruger destroyed a KONG Classic in 20 minutes. That's how this site started.
KONG has been making the same red rubber toy since 1976. It's the most recognized dog toy in the world, available in every pet store, recommended by virtually every trainer and vet. For most dogs, a KONG Classic lasts months or years. For Ruger, it lasted 20 minutes on a Tuesday morning.
That wasn't a failure on KONG's part. It was information. There's a category of dog for whom even KONG Classic isn't enough — and figuring out what works for those dogs is what this site is for.
What's in the box
KONG isn't a subscription — it's a toy brand. Their product line spans everything from puppy toys to the KONG Extreme, which is their toughest product. The Extreme is made from black natural rubber, noticeably denser than the red Classic.
Their stuffable design is the core innovation: pack it with treats, peanut butter, or their KONG Easy Treat paste, and the toy becomes a 20–30 minute enrichment activity rather than a chew toy. The stuffed KONG keeps even destructive dogs busy longer.

How the toys hold up
KONG Classic: not for power chewers. Ruger destroyed one in 20 minutes, which is not unusual for American pit bull terriers and similar breeds.
KONG Extreme (black rubber): significantly tougher. In our testing, the Extreme lasted weeks with Ruger before showing meaningful wear. For most heavy chewers — labs, huskies, German shepherds — the Extreme will last months.
For the most extreme power chewers (pit bulls, mastiffs, rottweilers with strong chew drive), the Extreme may still get destroyed. For those dogs, Bullymake's nylon toys are the next step up.
Pricing
KONG Classic: $10–$20 depending on size. KONG Extreme: $12–$25 depending on size. Available everywhere — Chewy, Amazon, PetSmart, Petco.
The guarantee
KONG doesn't offer a toy replacement guarantee in the way Bullymake and West Paw do. They stand behind the quality but don't promise free replacements for destroyed toys.
Who it's for
KONG is the right starting point for any dog owner. The stuffed KONG is one of the best enrichment tools available regardless of chew strength. The KONG Extreme is the right choice for heavy chewers who aren't at the extreme end. If your dog destroys KONG Extreme toys regularly, that's the signal to look at Bullymake or West Paw.
